A Transgender Man’s Journey to Pregnancy and Parenthood: Logan Brown’s Story
When Glamour UK featured Logan Brown, a transgender man, on their cover while he was pregnant, it sparked widespread controversy. Logan, who is now a proud father raising his daughter with his partner, Bailey Mills, has shared his unique journey of self-discovery, pregnancy, and overcoming societal expectations.
Battling Gender Dysphoria
Logan recalls his early struggles with gender dysphoria, which began at a young age. He would often try to hide his body by wearing boyish clothes, only to feel embarrassed. “It was tough not having anyone to talk to. There was no information for me to relate to,” Logan explains. At 13, he came out as a lesbian, a label that reflected his appearance more than his true identity. It took years of therapy and self-reflection for him to understand that his struggles stemmed from being transgender, not from his sexuality.
After realizing that his gender identity was separate from his sexuality, Logan focused on transitioning and building a healthier relationship with himself. Prior to meeting his partner, he had been in a few relationships with women but decided to take time for self-growth.
Meeting His Partner, Bailey Mills
Bailey Mills, Logan’s partner, is a non-binary drag queen from London. The two connected through social media about two years ago. Logan felt an instant connection with Bailey, relating to their experiences of being misunderstood. Their relationship blossomed, and they became inseparable. Logan describes their first date as chaotic but special, and he’s been “obsessed” with Bailey ever since.
Discovering the Pregnancy
Logan’s life took an unexpected turn when he found out he was pregnant. He had stopped taking testosterone due to health issues and was shocked when a pregnancy test came back positive. Initially, Logan was terrified, feeling as though his masculinity had been erased. “We were in shock,” he recalls. “It felt like it was all on me because it’s my body.”
However, as time passed, Logan came to terms with being a pregnant man. He realized that this was a unique opportunity for him and Bailey to have a biological child together. “I spent so much time feeling shame until I thought, ‘You can enjoy this or make it really hard for yourself.’ I’m a pregnant man, and we’re lucky.”
Facing Challenges at the Hospital
Navigating the healthcare system as a pregnant transgender man was challenging. While Logan had positive experiences at smaller clinics, moving to a larger hospital proved difficult. He was misgendered by staff, which made the experience even harder. Logan advocates for better LGBTQ+ education for healthcare workers, saying, “I’m a pregnant trans man, and I do exist. Healthcare workers need to be aware of people like me.”
Becoming a Father
After a long labor and some complications, Logan gave birth to a baby girl. Despite the challenges, Logan feels blessed. “I look at her and think, ‘Wow, you’re truly precious.’ Nothing could have fully prepared me for this, but we’re so blessed.”
Logan’s story is rare, but it’s not unique. More transgender men are discovering pregnancy during their transitions, and Logan’s experience highlights the need for greater understanding and support.
