If you’re looking for a charming and easy way to bring autumn to your doorstep, this creative fall decoration for your front entry is the perfect DIY project to try. It’s budget-friendly, takes just a couple of hours, and adds a warm, welcoming vibe to your home throughout the season. The idea came to me unexpectedly, as most of my creative projects do, and it turned out to be one of my favorite ways to decorate for fall.
Using just seven simple materials and spending around $40, you can transform your front porch into a festive display that guests will admire every time they visit. To get started, you’ll need a 16-inch square wire wreath form. Using a sturdy pair of wire cutters, cut through all three wires at two opposite corners of the wreath. Once done, you’ll be left with two angled wire pieces that will serve as the base for your door frame decorations. Before you begin decorating, attach two Command hooks to the top corners of your door frame, positioned so that each of the wire pieces can be hung like corner brackets framing your entryway. Once you’ve tested that the hooks will support the weight and placement of your wire forms, take the frames back down to start assembling your design. Begin by laying out your fall stems—think leaves, branches, and other faux foliage—to get a visual idea of your layout.
It helps to arrange them first before gluing anything in place. Once you’re satisfied with how everything looks, use a hot glue gun to attach the stems securely to the wire frame. Run a bead of glue between the wire and the stem, making sure each piece is firmly attached. The first layer should consist of base greenery and fall leaves to create a full, natural backdrop. After completing the base, move on to adding focal pieces like faux flowers, berries, or decorative items such as small pumpkins and artificial acorns.
These elements bring texture and depth to the arrangement and really make the piece pop. Be sure to stagger your items, mixing colors and shapes to avoid a flat or cluttered look. Occasionally, you may need to flip the wire frame over and apply glue to the back of heavier items to keep everything secure. Once your first corner piece is complete, repeat the process with the second wire frame, making sure the two pieces coordinate well with each other. They don’t need to be exactly the same, but a cohesive color scheme and similar materials will make the final result look polished and intentional. When both pieces are finished and the glue has dried completely, it’s time to hang them back up using the Command hooks on either side of your doorway.
The result is a beautiful, custom-made decoration that frames your front door with seasonal charm. To finish the look, you can create a matching wreath using the same materials and hang it directly in the center of the door. This ties everything together and makes your fall decor feel unified and complete. Not only does this DIY project add a personal touch to your entryway, but it’s also a great conversation starter for visiting friends and family. It shows off your creativity and love for the season while offering a warm, inviting feel every time someone walks up to your door. Plus, it’s a fun, relaxing project that you can complete in an afternoon. If you’re someone who enjoys seasonal decorating or just likes working with your hands, this fall entry decor is a great way to express your creativity and add a festive flair to your home.
